(i) Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ): These questions, carrying 1 or 2 marks each, will be objective in nature and each will have choice of four answers.
(ii) Numerical Answer Questions: For these questions the answer will be a real number, to be entered by the candidate using the virtual keypad.
(ii) Comprehension: These questions will test the candidate's understanding of the basics of his/her field.
(iii) Application: Here, the candidate is expected to apply his/her knowledge either through computation or by logical reasoning.
(iv) Analysis and Synthesis: In these questions, the candidate is presented with data, diagrams, images etc.
Marking
For the questions having One mark, 1/3 marks will be deducted for a wrong answer. For the questions having Two marks, 2/3 marks will be deducted for a wrong answer. There is no negative marking for numerical answer type questions.

2. Women Candidates of any category : Rs 750
3. SC/ST/PwD Category Candidates : Rs 750
Online Netbanking Payment: From the GATE Online Application Processing System, candidate will be redirected to the website of the bank of your choice to pay the fee.
Offline Challan Payment: If candidate had chosen offline payment option while filling in the online application form, he/she will be provided with a copy of the Challan in triplicate (PDF file) with your details already filled in. Print it out and go to any branche of State Bank of India (SBI) or Syndicate Bank to pay the fees.

2. Fill up the online application form carefully.
3. Upload your recent passport size color photograph and signature.
4. Pay the application fee through net-banking or bank challan (only through State Bank of India or Syndicate Bank).

Introduction to GATE
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India based examination which is administered and conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on behalf of National Coordination Board - GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt of India. The GATE committee, which comprises of representatives from the administering institutes, is the sole authority for regulating the examination and declaring the results. About GATE
IISc and IIts jointly administer the conduct of GATE. The overall coordination and responsibility of conducting GATE 2014 lies with Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, designated as the Organizing Institute for GATE 2014. A valid GATE score is essential for obtaining financial assistance during Master/Post Graduation and Doctoral degree programs in the field of Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Science in the institutes supported by the MHRD or other Government agencies.Whats New in GATE 2014
1. A new paper namely "Ecology and Evolution" is introduced in GATE 2014.2. Examinations for all the 22 papers will be conducted by an ONLINE Computer Based Test (CBT)

Pattern
